We’re pleased to announce the 2014 – 2015 Summit County Farm Bureau Academic Scholarship recipients. Please join us in congratulating our winners:
Samuel Boughton is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Fredrick Boughton of Akron. Samuel graduated from Copley High School and is planning to attend The Ohio State University. His intended field of study is Industrial Engineering/Statistics. Samuel’s occupational objective is to create a more energy efficient society.
Samuel’s current honors and activities include being a member of Copley High School Key Club, National Honors Society, and is the percussion section leader for both Marching Band and Concert Band. Samuel volunteers for Grace Church‘s Feed the Children program and the American Red Cross.
Thomas Culp, III is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Culp of Clinton. Thomas graduated from Northwest Local and is planning to attend The University of Ohio Northern, where he will major in Civil Engineering. Thomas’ occupational objective is to develop irrigation for small and large farms, while protecting our wildlife’s water resources.
Thomas’s honors and activities during high school include being a Scholar Athlete, a 3-year letterman in Baseball, a 4-year letterman in Football, and Football all-county honorable mention. He has also been a member of the Summit County 4-H group known as the Comet Bees.
Matt Ollis is the son of Mr. Mark Ollis and the late Mrs. Cindy Ollis of Copley. Matt graduated from Copley High School and is planning to attend The University of Akron, where he will major in Civil Engineering. Matt’s occupational objective is to focus on the environment.
Matt enjoys learning about agriculture and enjoying the outdoors. He is actively involved in the LOFT youth group at Lakeside Christian Fellowship Church. Matt also volunteers at the Vacation Bible School at Martindale Christian Fellowship and the Summit County Farm Bureau Antique Museum.
Peter Schanz is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Peter Schanz of Barberton. Peter graduated from Barberton High School and is planning to attend The University of Akron. His intended field of study is Biology. Peter’s occupational objective is to become an ER Doctor.
Peter’s honors and activities include being a member of the National Honor Society, 2-year letterman in Soccer, 3-year letterman in Cross Country, 4-year letterman in Track. He is also an Ohio Buckeye Boys State graduate (youth government), a Destination Imagination participant, and is actively involved in his church youth group.
Ian Urquhart is the son of Mr. Lionel Urquhart and Mrs. Elisa Staats of Norton. Ian graduated from Archbishop Hoban High School and is planning to attend The Ohio State University, where he plans to major in Greenhouse and Nursery Management as well as Business. Ian’s occupational objective is to own his own greenhouse/nursery and grow produce.
Ian’s honors and activities include being a member of the track and soccer teams as well as intramural basketball through the CYO. Ian has volunteered the past three years at Weaver School in Tallmadge helping special needs students with their basketball program. Ian is extremely artistic and uses his creative energy in his service at Camp Christopher, a summer camp for special needs students.
