After what I consider a milder than normal winter, a typical spring has arrived. We have 60* one or two days and then we have a cold snowy wet weekend. We should be use to it, as we do live in northeast Ohio. However, we do remember and know that those wonderful sweet summer days are not far behind these typical spring days. We sleep with our windows open and this morning before dawn you could hear all the birds outside chirping and singing to their hearts content. It was such a pleasant sound after the wind, thunder and lightning storms of the past few weeks.
All around us we see the signs of the coming summer months. And I can’t wait! It is probably my most favorite time of the year. Farmers are doing their best to have all the equipment ready when it comes time to plant. Time keeps marching on. And where those days go is a mystery! I planted in a pot (I know that’s not the same as planting in a garden but…..) of sugar bush edible pod peas. I do love fresh peas from the garden, but the ground is way too wet right now. So, maybe, I will have a few peas to try early. The edible pod intrigued me as I love them in salads at a restaurant, but have never tried growing them. So, we shall see what happens. It won’t be long before we can actually plant seeds in the garden and at the same time the farmers’ will be going to the field. And then it won’t be long until you can stop by all our wonderful Summit County Farmers’ Markets. They always have such a wonderful array of fresh fruit and vegetables. Sometimes that makes it hard for us to choose what we want to serve for supper that day or the next. Be sure to stop by and check out what the neighbors and friends are growing this summer. Enjoy all these extra special goodies while we can, as those fresh summer produce days are gone all too quickly.
