It doesn’t matter what day of the week or what holiday it is, cows need to be milked, chickens need to be feed, and stalls need to be “picked”. Animals are a priority, and that’s 365 days of the year! Unfortunately, this can be a difficult concept for some people who are NOT associated with livestock.
That being said, the holidays can be tricky for livestock farmers as they try to balance family time with animal time. This can be a stressful time; especially when deciding who will do chores on Christmas morning when the kids are waking up to check their stockings. Some families choose to celebrate and open gifts on Christmas Eve or Christmas night. This allows dads to milk or moms to feed livestock on Christmas morning without the pressure from the anxious kids. Keep this in mind and please be supportive and understanding of the livestock farmer/owner that just may need to arrive late to or leave early from your holiday celebration.
“Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas.” Calvin Coolidge
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a very happy holiday season!
