In the spring of 1831, a young couple named Nathan and Catherine Seiberling and their infant daughter left their families in Lehigh County, PA and ventured forth to the Ohio wilderness. Their covered wagon came to rest in Norton Township where they purchased 100 acres for $600. As Nathan cleared the land for farming he also built a saw mill along the creek called Hudson Run that flowed through his property. This became a source of great revenue as he provided lumber to arriving settlers for homes. The family expanded to 15 children, twelve of whom survived to adulthood, and the acreage expanded as well to about 500 acres.
The Seiberling Farm has passed down through the many generations from Nathan to his son Gustavus, from Gus to his son Cloyd, from Cloyd to his son Ellis, and finally to Ellis’ children Chuck and Dottie, who 187 years later are still living and working on the land.
This family run farm today is known for growing many summertime favorites, especially sweet corn, picked by hand daily, as well as other fresh, farm grown produce all of which is sold through a busy roadside stand. The roadside farm market is open from 9 AM -5:30 PM seven days a week during the harvest season. We invite you to visit!
