I can’t believe that we have another cold wet spring! They say it is going to warm up and then that prediction gets changed one day at a time. We were looking at 5 days of dry weather and now it is changed to a week of rain. Then you throw the coronavirus situation into this mix. And then the shutdown of the economy, stay at home orders and people losing jobs! Yikes! That’s a lot for everyone to handle. However, it is still the time of year for the area farmers to be planting crops. So here is another start of a rough cropping year. Please be careful if you see their equipment on the roads. I know of several of our local farm market farmers that have managed to get several plantings of sweet corn, peppers and potatoes planted. At least the ground temperature is starting to warm up so that the seed will germinate. Hopefully, frost and freeze warnings are long past. It would be nice not to have to worry about that part of the weather. You have probably seen more hay still in the fields also, as those farmers have not had enough dry days in a row to bale. And with the cooler weather, the hay is not growing too fast. You have to be an optimistic person to be a farmer. They all are doing their best to bring us the greatest vegetables and fruits for the year.
Please be sure to visit our local farm markets, when they open their businesses. This might be a good time to remind you to give them a call to check out their hours and curbside delivery. All this keeps changing daily because of Covid-19. Do yourself a favor and eat some of the best food around. Remember, this food isn’t coming from another country!!! You know where this food is coming from and his family is eating it too!
