Year after year, we are asked why this event is called “the Farmers’ Share breakfast” and only charge $1.00. Well, believe it or not, $1.00 is just about the amount the farmer receives for that meal. Shocking, isn’t it! Let’s just look at what’s on the breakfast plate…
A good rule of thumb would be to figure the farmer receives about 14 cents out of each dollar spent, so for example:
2 pancakes (4.29 for a box that makes 40 pancakes) 21 cents for two so the farmers’ share would be about 3 cents
2 sausage links (we are paying 29 cents per link) 58 cents for two so the farmers’ share would be about 7.5 cents
2 eggs ($3.00 per dozen of eggs) 50 cents for two so the farmers’ share would be about 7 cents
2 ounces of maple syrup (42.50 per gal./.366 cents per ounce) 73 cents for two ounces so the farmers’ share would be about 10 cents
2 tablespoons of butter (6.29 per pound/.196 cents per tablespoon) 39 cents for two tablespoons so the farmers’ share would be about 5 cents
1 cup of milk (we are paying 50 cents for each small carton) so the farmers’ share would be about 7 cents. This alone makes us want to say, THANK YOU FARMERS!
Hope to see you there!
