A Request From Your President
By Tim Luther
As many of you know, in July 1991, the Summit County Farm Bureau Board of Trustees
completed construction on a 48′ x 80′ building on the Summit County Fair Grounds.
This building was then officially dedicated to the Summit County Fair Board as the
Summit County Farm Bureau Antiques Museum. The public response to this concept
was overwhelmingly positive and antique donations started to come in from the
surrounding areas. As a result, the original building was expanded in 1994 to its
present size of 68’ X 125.’ Substantial additions to the side and the rear of the building
provided even more room to house the farming history of the county.
Attendees of the Summit County Fair have enjoyed visiting the museum each July,
pointing out and remembering treasured items of their past. The last couple of years,
visitors have participated in a museum scavenger hunt and voted on the Farm Dog of
the Year and Farm Cat of the Year contests. The current SCFB Board of Trustees are
currently working on a Farm Bureau display, highlighting agriculture in our urban county.
However, we need your help! We would like to exhibit a county map showing all the
agriculture throughout Summit County. Not only where there is agriculture but what
kind of agriculture there is in our diverse county. Believe it or not, July is just around the
corner. Therefore, please help us by identifying the information below and submitting
your response to summit@ofbf.org …
