Dayton Nursery was started in 1956 by Del Dayton. He began planting Christmas trees on his property and harvesting and selling Scotch Pine Christmas trees on land that now belongs to Wolf Creek Winery. With his brother, Gene, he expanded to include a nursery and landscape business. Keeping up with the nursery on top of a full time job made it hard, the business did not grow much until his son Tom became interested in 1972. In 1973 they started growing and selling Azaleas along with other nursery stock and produce.
Though the original site was not conducive to expansion as it was landlocked by other properties, Tom purchased 75 acres, retaining 33 acres on which the nursery and garden center are located today. Tom’s vision of a grower type garden center is still going with their ever expanding palette of plants to meet the customer’s desires. They have special events all season long, including Artisan Markets, the seasonal produce market in the Owl Barn, and a Fall Family Festival to name a few. Along with a vast selection, they offer a wealth of knowledge, education opportunities (via their blog, videos, garden tip pages, newsletter, etc), and attentive customer service.
Dayton is a complete nursery and garden center selling everything from their famous evergreens, Azaleas, hardy trees, shrubs, roses, grasses, over 800+ varieties of perennials, fertilizers, mulches, garden decor, and so much more. With their knowledge, helpful staff and variety, Dayton has made a name for itself around the community.
