Is it still spring or has summer arrived, early? These record breaking days in the
80’s certainly makes you think that the spring rollercoaster has come to an end. Just
hold on, we live in OHIO, Mother Nature can be very fickle this time of year! Although
there might be blossoms and buds appearing a couple weeks early doesn’t mean there
will be smooth sailing here on out … keeping our fingers crossed for all our local fruit
growers and the rest of our farmers’ environments.
Last week we celebrated two major holidays for our environment, Earth Day and
Arbor Day.
Every Day is Earth Day to a farmer since they take conservation very seriously
and are good stewards to their land. Being good stewards also means protecting
natural resources, more than half of America’s farmers intentionally provide habitat for
wildlife. Check out this article from our archives on Earth Day …

Arbor Day was established to recognize the importance of trees to us as a
Nation. Be sure to read this article from our archives written by SCFB board member,
Tom Dayton, on the history of Arbor Day, trees and tree planting.

Speaking of our archives, in 2015 we ran a monthly series of gardening tips.
They began in May, search each month for that month’s action list to help you produce
a productive backyard garden. Click on the link below for this month.
